Captain Sean Kenny was born and raised in Upper Darby Township where he continues to reside and remain a member of the community with his family. Sean graduated from Upper Darby High School in 2004 and then attended Neumann University and graduated in 2007 earning a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice.
While in college, Captain Kenny worked during the summer seasons of 2005 and 2006 with the Ocean City, New Jersey Police Department, serving as a special law enforcement officer after completing training at the Cape May County, New Jersey Police Academy.
In 2007, Captain Kenny was hired by the Upper Darby Township Police Department. He was enrolled in the Montgomery County Police Academy and was selected as a class sergeant. Captain Kenny graduated at the top of his class and was named class valedictorian.
Upon graduation, Captain Kenny was assigned to the patrol division where he received several merit and unit commendations. In 2012, Captain Kenny was selected for a position in the department’s narcotics unit were he was assigned as a tactical narcotics officer. As a member of the narcotics unit, Captain Kenny was a member of the Delaware County Drug Task Force and was recognized by the courts as an expert in the field narcotics. During Captain Kenny’s assignment in narcotics, the unit was awarded the Mayors Award of Excellence and he received the Fraternal Order of Police Bravery Award as well as the department’s award for bravery.
In 2016, Captain Kenny was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the patrol division where he was the first line supervisor to a platoon of officers. Captain Kenny was also selected as a supervisor for the Departments Emergency Service Unit. During Captain Kenny’s time as a sergeant, he successfully completed Penn State’s Police Executive Development (POLEX) and was also the recipient of the National Liberty Museum Award of Valor, and the department’s award of heroism, after Captain Kenny and other officers rescued 2 residents from a residential building fire.
In 2021, Captain Kenny was promoted to Lieutenant and remained in the patrol division, now as the commanding officer of a platoon. As a Lieutenant, Captain Kenny had a hand in the development of several newly promoted Sergeants assigned to the patrol division as well as numerous newly hired officers. Captain Kenny also graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command during this time.
In 2024, Captain Kenny was promoted to Captain and is excited to be assigned as a commanding officer in the patrol division. Throughout his career, Captain Kenny has enjoyed working with the community, using the concepts of procedural justice, to resolve problems and increase quality of life. As a Commanding Officer in the patrol division, Captain Kenny looks forward to continuing these efforts.
